Property Tax Appeal

With property values declining, most homeowners are stunned to receive yet another increasing tax bill. What options do you have? Consider appealing your tax assessment. Your property assessment is the government's opinion of your home's value. If that value is too high, you have the right to appeal. An appeal submitted with a valid recent appraisal nearly always receives strong consideration.

Complaints regarding your assessment must be completed on a standardized form and submitted to the Champaign County Board of Review. There is no fee needed to appeal. Appraisals typically cost in the range of $200-$300 for single family, non farm, residences. You can obtain a free copy of the complaint form by clicking on the link in the menu at right. Complaints must be received at the Board of Review Office no later than September 10th.
